You just have to wonder what would happen if the UK, France & Germany started trying to do this! I personally know of 4 U boats (so far as we know complete with crews) from both world wars off the Cornish coast, then there are the perhaps 1600 or so crew from the British losses at the Battle of Coranel in 1914 & so it goes on!
